Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Accounts Receivable Officer to join our Finance & Accounts team. The role is responsible for managing customer invoicing, monitoring receivables, reconciling customer accounts, and ensuring timely collection of payments from key off-takers.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining healthy cash flow, enforcing credit terms, and ensuring accurate revenue recognition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and issue accurate invoices to off-takers in line with agreed freight rates, trip sheets, waybills, and contract terms.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including revenue schedules and receivables analysis.
  • Verify completed haulage trips using approved documentation (delivery notes, proof of delivery, trip manifests, weighbridge tickets where applicable).
  • Ensure invoices are raised promptly in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and billing cycles.
  • Maintain and update the accounts receivable ledger.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up proactively to ensure timely payments in line with agreed credit terms.
  • Reconcile customer statements and investigate discrepancies.
  • Liaise with operations and logistics teams to resolve billing disputes relating to trips, volumes, rates, demurrage, or downtime.
  • Track and account for contract-specific charges such as demurrage, detention, penalties, or adjustments.
  • Prepare aging reports and provide periodic updates to Management on receivables status and collection performance.
  • Escalate long-outstanding debts and recommend appropriate recovery actions.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities by preparing revenue and receivable schedules.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial policies, tax regulations (including VAT where applicable), and contractual obligations.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in Accounts Receivable, Credit Control, or General Accounting (experience in logistics, haulage, or transportation industry is a strong advantage).
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (Local or International), e.g., Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Tally, or ERP systems) and strong working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition, credit management, and receivables processes.
  • Ability to analyze contracts and billing schedules.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and meet strict billing timelines.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
