Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, register, label and prepare samples for microbiological analysis.
  • Perform microbiological testing on water, wastewater, food, beverages, environmental, pharmaceutical and industrial samples using approved laboratory methods.
  • Prepare culture media, reagents and standard solutions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct microbial isolation, identification, enumeration and confirmation tests.
  • Perform sterility testing, microbial limit tests and environmental monitoring where applicable.
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain microbiological laboratory equipment, including incubators, autoclaves, colony counters and microscopes.
  • Record, analyse and interpret microbiological test results accurately and prepare laboratory reports.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), laboratory SOPs and quality assurance requirements.
  • Participate in method validation, verification and quality control activities.
  • Maintain proper documentation, laboratory records and sample traceability.
  • Monitor inventory levels of microbiological media, reagents and laboratory consumables.
  • Ensure proper sterilization, decontamination and disposal of biological waste in accordance with biosafety requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits, external audits and accreditation activities.

Maintain a clean, organized and safe laboratory environment.
Educational Qualification

Minimum of a B.Sc. or HND in Microbiology or related field.
Professional certification or postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.

Experience
Minimum of 1–3 years post-qualification experience in a microbiology, environmental, food, pharmaceutical or quality control laboratory. Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory will be an added advantage.
