Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced In-House Legal Counsel to provide corporate, commercial, regulatory, and compliance support across the organisation. The role will advise management on legal risks, review and negotiate contracts, manage external counsel, support regulatory compliance, and ensure strong corporate governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide practical legal advice on corporate, commercial, regulatory, employment, and business matters.
• Advise senior management on the legal implications and risks of business decisions, partnerships, transactions, and new initiatives.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, MOUs, SLAs, NDAs, vendor agreements, and other legal documents.
• Identify contractual risks and ensure agreements align with business objectives and acceptable risk levels.
• Maintain an organized register of executed contracts, key obligations, renewal dates, and other critical contractual milestones.
• Manage relationships with external lawyers and law firms on litigation, regulatory matters, and specialized legal issues.
• Monitor and coordinate ongoing litigation, legal notices, disputes, and regulatory correspondence.
• Monitor applicable Nigerian corporate, commercial, labour, tax, and regulatory requirements and advise management on necessary actions.
• Support statutory filings, regulatory renewals, corporate governance matters, board documentation, and CAC-related requirements.
• Conduct legal and compliance risk reviews and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain legal and compliance policies and provide staff awareness training where required.
• Support data protection and privacy compliance in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA).
• Work closely with HR, Finance, Procurement, Operations, and Internal Control on matters requiring legal input.
• Maintain proper custody of legal documents, corporate records, and statutory registers.

Requirements

• LL.B and Call to the Nigerian Bar (B.L) are required.
• Minimum of 5 years post-call experience in corporate/commercial law, either in-house or within a reputable law firm.
• Proven experience in contract drafting, review, and negotiation.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian corporate and commercial law, contract law, labour law, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
• Experience managing external counsel, litigation matters, and regulatory requirements.
• Good understanding of statutory filings and corporate documentation.
• Knowledge of data protection and privacy requirements is an advantage.
• Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
• High level of confidentiality, integrity, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.
• An LL.M or relevant professional certification is an added advantage.

Pay: ₦400,000.00 - ₦500,000.00 per month
